Ayako Hirasawa Pianist/

Composer

Ayako has worked with number of filmmakers and theatre directors, and her music compositions were featured in many films, TV channels, commercial videos and theatre productions.
Ayako is currently a pianist at prestigious and historic ​dance studios in NYC including Steps on Broadway, New York Theatre Ballet and RIOULT Dance.

Ayako was invited to perform at​ Mt.Sinai Hospital ​as part of ​the ​Asian American Pacific Islanders Heritage Month. ​She has also performed at ​Holocaust memorial​ at ​US's first Holocaust memorial park​ in Brooklyn, along with the internationally acclaimed violinist ​Liya Touch​.

 

As a composer she has worked for a ​Brighton Fringe Festival​ theatre production ​Kafka's Metamorphosis​, and a rare complete performance of a Greek comedy ​Women of Thesmophoria​. Ayako has also worked with United Nations Forest Film Award winner Dan Childs​ ​and the ​Latest TV producer William Ranieri​.

She was invited to an animator-musician collaboration project under the direction of ​BAFTA award winning​ and ​Emmy nominated Jonathan Hodgson​, and another ​BAFTA award winning director Osbert Parker​. One of the films from the project, ​Along -Older Brother ​by ​Hakim Ismail​ with Ayako’s music won 2 awards(​the best British film​, ​Special mention by panel of industry judges​) at ​London International Animation Festival​, one of the most important short film festivals in the world. Ayako has also worked with members of ​Brighton Filmmakers Coalition​. A short film ​Shell​ by ​Pelin Boga​, which Ayako also co-produced, was a finalist at number of film festivals, among them the prestigious ​IFSAK National Short ​Film​ and Documentary Competition​ in Turkey, ​11th Berlin Turkish Film Festival​, ​6th Sinepark Film Festival​ ​and screened at ​Istanbul Modern Museum​.

 

As a dance accompanist and a keen dancer herself, Ayako cares about gender issues in dance. Ayako is a founder of “​Women in Argentine Tango NYC​”, a group who supports and provides safe place for women in NYC Argentine tango community. She is also an author of articles on in Chacott​ magazine and Danceview​ magazine, the top dance magazines in Japan. These articles raise awareness of gender issues in dance and encourage Japan's dance community to become more diverse by presenting the innovative dance scenes of New York.
